I live a life where my thoughts seem to rule the day. They bounce around like a superball out of control. Sometimes, unusual connections are made through my observations of life. Other times, anxiety and stress rattling around in my brain make a mess of things. And living in a world where social media creates a frenzy of stress and anxiety with all the breaking news and useless information flooding our lives, we are bound to be more stressed.

But, I believe that most of our anxiety and depression stem from the fact that we have lost touch with God.

We live in a world that never stops moving. Deadlines, responsibilities, and expectations pile up, leaving us feeling stretched thin. Anxiety creeps in when we feel like we’re falling behind, and stress takes root when we try to carry burdens we were never meant to bear. But what if much of our stress is unnecessary? What if, by prioritizing God, we find that some of the weight we’re carrying isn’t ours to hold at all?

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7

God doesn’t just call us to lay our burdens down—He offers peace in exchange. When we put Him first, He helps us sort through what truly matters, letting go of unnecessary stress and replacing anxiety with trust.

Anxiety often stems from feeling out of control and carrying burdens we weren’t meant to carry. We worry about things that haven’t even happened yet. We stress over pleasing people and meeting expectations. We fill our schedules with so many commitments that we leave no room for rest. But Jesus gives us a different way:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

When we focus on God first, we realize that much of what weighs us down isn’t necessary. We stop striving for control and instead surrender to His plan. We learn to say “no” to commitments that drain us. We replace worry with prayer and find peace in trusting His promises.

Here are some scriptures to meditate on when anxiety arises:

  • When you feel overwhelmed: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1

  • When you don’t know what to do: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

  • When you’re afraid of the future: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you.” – Jeremiah 29:11

The world will always offer new reasons to be anxious, but we don’t have to accept them. By prioritizing God, we shift our focus from chaos to peace. We find that much of our stress fades when we trust Him instead of trying to handle everything alone.

Today, let’s choose faith over fear, rest over striving, and trust over control. God’s peace is always available—it’s up to us to receive it.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

With love and encouragement,Mizz Ma’am
